Nickel plating on PET film is a process that uses polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film as the substrate, and uniformly covers its surface with a layer of nickel metal through a series of precise surface treatment processes and nickel plating techniques. This composite material not only inherits the excellent properties of PET film, such as good optical performance, mechanical strength, chemical stability, and processability, but also endows conductivity, corrosion resistance, and electromagnetic shielding through nickel plating, greatly expanding its application fields.
Characteristics of Conductive PET Nickel Film Products
Excellent conductivity: The nickel plating layer provides excellent conductivity for PET film, making it suitable for applications that require conductivity, such as electronic components, touch screens, electromagnetic shielding, and other fields.
High corrosion resistance: Nickel metal has good corrosion resistance and can effectively resist the erosion of various chemicals, extending the service life of PET film.
Enhanced mechanical properties: After nickel plating, the surface hardness of PET film is increased, and its scratch resistance and wear resistance are enhanced, while maintaining the original high strength and toughness of PET film.
Stable optical performance: PET film itself has good transparency and glossiness, and nickel plating treatment has little effect on its optical performance, making it still suitable for occasions that require good optical effects.
Good processability: PET film is easy to process and shape, and can still undergo cutting, stamping, bending, and other processing operations after nickel plating, making it convenient to produce various complex shaped components.

PET film pretreatment: Cleaning, degreasing, dust removal and other pretreatment of PET film to improve the adhesion and uniformity of the coating.
Surface activation: Chemical or physical methods are used to activate the surface of PET film, making it easier to bond with the coating.
Nickel plating treatment: Using electroplating or chemical plating methods to uniformly coat a layer of nickel metal on the surface of PET film. The thickness and uniformity of the coating can be adjusted according to specific needs.

1、 Flexible Electronics and Circuits
This field is the most classic and widely used application direction of PET nickel plating film, mainly utilizing its conductivity and bendable characteristics.
Flexible printed circuit board: PET nickel plated film is one of the key materials for manufacturing flexible printed circuit boards. Due to its convenient processing and low cost, FPC is commonly used in consumer electronics products that do not require strict temperature resistance.
Flexible circuits and sensors: Nickel copper alloy PET film prepared by magnetron sputtering has good conductivity and mechanical properties, suitable for flexible circuits, sensors, and smart wearable devices, helping electronic products achieve lightweight and thinning.
Special electronic components: In specific designs, they can be used as components of RF antennas and high-speed transmission lines, utilizing their metal coating to ensure stable signal transmission.
2、 Electromagnetic shielding
Nickel coating can effectively reflect and absorb electromagnetic waves, making PET nickel coating the preferred lightweight shielding material.
Internal shielding of electronic devices: widely used in the interior of electronic products such as mobile phones, computers, and communication devices. PET nickel plated film provides a new material solution for battery technology innovation, especially flexible design.
Flexible lithium-ion battery: Nickel plated PET textile fibers or films can serve as electrodes or current collectors for flexible lithium-ion batteries. The study enhanced the adhesion between the nickel layer and PET substrate through surface modification, enabling the battery to maintain excellent electrochemical performance even under repeated bending.
Precision battery components: related PET copper plated strips and other products, after surface treatment such as nickel plating, are required to have extremely high corrosion resistance and reliability as core accessories such as pole ears and connectors for new energy batteries, and are applied to high-end lithium batteries and new energy vehicles.

Conductive layer of car window film: Double sided nickel plated PET film can be used in car window film as a transparent conductive layer, connected to a power source to achieve fast anti fog and anti frost functions of the car window, improving driving safety.

Some cutting-edge research has explored the potential of PET nickel plating film in interdisciplinary fields.
Flexible solar cells: Highly conductive nickel PET flexible substrates can serve as counter electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells. Research has shown that the batteries prepared by it achieve high photoelectric conversion efficiency, providing a low-cost solution for flexible optoelectronic devices.
Packaging and Barrier: Although PP nickel plated film is more common in this field, PET nickel plated film with appropriate modification can also be used for high-end packaging that requires moisture and oxygen permeation prevention, extending the shelf life of the contents.
